Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM)

BTAM is the systematic process of investigating, and assessing concerning behaviors. The primary goal of Behavioral Threat Assessment is to evaluate the difference between making a threat and posing a threat to a school community and then to build a management plan that supports the safety of the entire community.

The Idaho BTAM model is based on current research in the field of behavioral threat assessment and is aligned with the U.S. Department of Justice’s guidance and effective practice recommendations.

The Idaho Office of School Safety and Security asserts that effective Behavioral Threat Assessment is multi-disciplinary and community-based. Preventing acts of violence is the responsibility of the entire community and many community agencies and partners play an important role. The IOSSS Training provides an investigative protocol, a framework for assessment and guidelines for effective management.

The Behavioral Threat Assessment Team Training is an 8-hour training for school staff and community partner agencies. If you would like to request an on-site training opportunity please contact our office for more information.
